Hello, it's Sylvie. Since nobody is ever going to write a hint-based walkthrough for this game, I wrote my own to help people who get stuck.
Some of them are pretty tricky. Try slowing down the game speed so you have time to think about your inputs. Even if your Gamer's Creed requires you to complete everything at 60fps, it can be helpful to use the slower game speeds for practice and learning. When designing the levels, Sylvie often used the lower game speeds to develop strategies before switching back to 60fps to make sure she could beat the level at full speed.
You can use the Enter key to access the options menu while in-game and change the game speed. There are also shortcut keys for changing the game speed (F1 = 20fps, F2 = 30fps, F3 = 60fps).
Sometimes you might have to use the grapplehook or teleport in creative ways to progress. If the method you're trying seems too difficult, think about whether there's another strategy.
If you forget the details of how some mechanics work, you can press Escape to bring up the level select screen and revisit earlier levels, and that will let you read the tutorial text again.
A playthrough video of the first 13 levels is provided below if it helps to have a reference. See the video description on Youtube for individual level timestamps. Some levels have many possible strategies and the methods in this video aren't necessarily the easiest methods.
Using your teleport ability, find a way to get inside a wall. Then, use this power to exit the boundaries of a level. The real game starts here!
The idea is to position the midpoint of your Grapplehook inside a wall, and then teleport to it by releasing the key. This is probably easiest to do in the first level, but it can be done in many places. Once you are inside a wall, you can move around in a strange way, and you should be able to move outside the level boundary.
The remaining hints are meant to be read when you get really stuck and want to give up. The hints are organized so that you can hopefully find a hint for the part you are stuck on without spoiling other details. The hints for more difficult sections are incremental, so you can get a small hint, and then if it doesn't help, you can choose to reveal a bigger hint.
If you don't know what the letters mean, you should beat the first 13 levels, and read the hint under General Hints about where to find a kitten. Then, you should explore some more until you understand.
Start your exploration by exiting the boundaries of the first level (Field 01). Nearby, you will find other fields (02, 03 and 04) and you will also see a strange white beam of light. If you cross the beam of light, there are four more previously unseen fields you can find. One of them is the Kitten Library, which has an atlas that explains the structure of the universe and which letters correspond to certain fields. Another is the Wizard's Tower, which explains the meaning and purpose of letters. This should give you enough information to make more discoveries.
The star is revealed by reading all four books.
The star is in plain sight. You can do a precise jump to reach it from below, or just come from above.
The grand tree Yggdrasil changes with the seasons. If you make the journey to this field during other seasons, you will be able to get two new spells and the star.
It depends on the moonrise. If you visit Yggdrasil by choosing it from the Field Select menu, that's the 3rd moonrise.
You change the "moon" by starting from different levels. So for example, to reach Yggdrasil on the 4th moonrise, select one of the fields with number 04, then escape the boundaries and travel to Yggdrasil. If you do this, it will be summer instead of spring.
Bypass the rings with a spell. Particularly, the spell you get by travelling to the center of the universe is useful. This should allow you to visit Yggdrasil in all five seasons.
The star is revealed by talking to the wizard.
You need to complete the Starlit Valley before you can get the star here.
Visiting the Xenobiology Lab might give you some insight.
There are "YesNo" blocks in the windows. The behaviour of these blocks is explained in the lab, and once you understand how they work, you will be able to grapple onto them and reach the star.
Are you having trouble accessing this field, or completing this field?
You will need to get past some fast-moving orb rings to reach it. A spell from Yggdrasil will help here.
If you don't have the dodging skill to complete it normally, try teleporting outside the ring after the challenge starts. It's a rather precise teleport, so you might want to slow down the game speed to get it.
The star is revealed by repeatedly grappling onto the blue crystal block. Once you understand this, it just becomes a difficult platforming challenge. Approach the crystal block from the bottom rather than the sides, and try slowing down the game speed if you're having trouble.
This is a platforming challenge that uses the "inside-a-wall" mechanics, which aren't really explained anywhere in the game. This is how they work:
There's a spell that can turn the power back on, allowing you to enter the main room.
One of the Forbidden Spells you learn in the Kitten Library.
If you're having trouble accessing this field, don't worry about it until later. It serves as the gateway to the game's final challenge, and there's nothing to do there until the very end. If you complete enough other fields you'll eventually gain access to spells that will make it easy to reach.
You need to complete the Starlit Valley before you can get the star here. After that, it should be pretty straightforward.
This is probably the most difficult puzzle in the game. That alone is kind of a hint: you need to do something pretty unusual and tricky.
The spell of [STARLIGHT] can summon a star, but.... you can't cast it without S. So the spell is not the solution here. Please find another way to bring a star to this field. The left-side spell in the Wizard's Tower might give you some insight. Pay attention to the spatial relationship between the Starlit Valley and other fields, as revealed by that spell. Have you seen any stars that move before? Underside Field 08 is directly below the Starlit Valley, and the star in that field moves upwards when you are vertically aligned with it. You need to "carry" that star up to the Starlit Valley. Using Field Select to enter a level will reset the star's position, but spells that warp you to a specific position won't reset it. There's also a hidden spell in Underside Field 12 that can be used to get past the rings.
Give me a real hint.
I thought about it for a while, and I have no idea how to do that.
It didn't.
I don't get it....
Spell it out for me.
How do I get past the purple orb rings while doing that?
This is a challenging platforming stage. Completing it without the use of spells is difficult even for Sylvie. If you can't beat it, consider coming back when you have more spells.
I would recommend one of the spells you get from Yggdrasil. There's also a cheesier strategy with a different spell.
The right-side spell in the Wizard's Tower can be used to warp directly beside the star if you find the right position to use it.What spells are useful here and where do I find them?
Give me the cheese.
You need to complete the Starlit Valley before you can get the star here. After that, it should be pretty straightforward.
Ha ha ha! Sorry. You found the spell that lets you set mid-stage checkpoints, right? It would be pretty brutal without that.
The platforming challenges are complex and precise, and it might be hard both to figure out what to do and to actually pull it off, even at low game speed. If you feel like giving up, there is a hidden spell in Underside Field 05 that makes things easier.
Combine the hidden spell with another spell to make it last longer. You'll still have to do a tricky jump near the end.
It's one of the spells you get from Yggdrasil. Visit it in the summer.
Thank you for playing!
